Notice of Dues Deductibility

APA and PaPS dues are generally deductible on your federal income tax return as a business expense. Under federal law, however, that portion of your dues used to support federally-defined lobbying expenses is NOT deductible. We have estimated the non-deductible portion of your PaPS dues as 24%. If the actual amount is higher, we will inform you through a notification to all members of the number after we close our books in January.

As a member of the Pennsylvania Psychiatric Society (PaPS), you are part of a professional community nearly 1,500 strong. You have access to practice resources, Continuing Medical Education (CME) opportunities, and the combined insight and expertise of diverse psychiatrists of all practice levels from each of the unique regions of Pennsylvania.

Advocacy

PaPS has a seat at the policymaking table. Our lobbyists and member representatives frequently visit the state capitol to educate lawmakers and the media about mental health and substance use issues in PA. Additionally, PaPS is represented in the state house of medicine through its representation on the Specialty Leadership Cabinet and Board of Trustees of the Pennsylvania Medical Society.

We currently have five APA Area 3 Assembly representatives who look out for our interests at the APA Assembly. Your membership and contributions help PaPS stay in front of policies affecting your daily practice, healthcare delivery, as well as the rights of your consumers.

Education

Your PaPS membership affords you access to proven and groundbreaking educational events offering Continuing Medical Education (CME) credits. PaPS’ premiere educational event focusing on Patient Safety and Risk Management draws acclaimed faculty and attendance from all levels and backgrounds. Additionally, the Society offers several other specialized educational meetings throughout the year. Locally, our chapters provide quarterly CME meetings that address the most pertinent topics affecting your daily practice.

Collegiality

PaPS members receive numerous opportunities throughout the year to network and collaborate with colleagues and counterparts from across the commonwealth. PaPS comprises six chapters based on geographic locality: Central PA, Lehigh Valley, Northeastern PA, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and Western PA. Each chapter hosts its own social and educational events. Through your PaPS membership, you are automatically guaranteed membership in the chapter of the region in which you practice. All chapters are equally represented in the state society.
